I am in the marketing business and one of the things my team do is design websites. Naturally I take a look at our competitors now and then to see what they are up to.
If you look at the websites of most web designers they are all bells and whistles and jargon packed; HTML this, Java that and responsive design the other. This is all very well, but it seems to me it is designed more to impress their colleagues than attract customers.
In reality, those potential clients are looking for a website that will increase their sales and help their business grow. Talking in jargon is going to confuse them, not impress them.
You have to think of how your customers will view your website and how it will help them. Sure they want to know that they are dealing with a team of professionals but they don’t really need to see a picture of the office boy and a list of his favourite death metal bands.
You need to take a look at your marketing from your customer’s perspective. You should be matching your message to what they want and need. You must talk in their language, not baffle them with buzzwords and industry language.
Never forget who your potential clients are and adjust your marketing to their requirements.
