In this modern world of high tech you know that a postcard in a newsagent’s window isn’t going to cut it. You need a website.

The internet is a marvellous advertising place for any tradesman, from electricians to plasterers and decorators to landscape gardeners. You can bet that most people looking for a tradesman to do a job will be searching online so you need to make sure your website tells them all they need to know.



Here are some ideas about what should be on your website:

Contact Details. Make it easy for people to find you by prominently displaying your contact details, including email address, mobile and landline phone numbers, on every page of your website.

Your Location. Set out clearly where you are based and the area you cover. Think about including a map too.

Your Services. List the services you provide and include any short descriptions that might be needed.

USP – Why You? What is your Unique Selling Point? If there is a specific reason why someone should pick you to do a job over a competitor here is the place to explain it. It may be that you have a specialist skill or that you have been in the trade for x number of years, for instance.

Testimonials. Always ask satisfied customers for feedback, such as a quick email. You can then post it on your site to give potential customers confidence in your work. Do check with the customer that they are happy for them to be quoted online and only include their name if they agree. Otherwise describe as Mr A etc.

Case Studies. If you can, and if the client agrees, take before and after photos of your jobs to put online as case studies. People love seeing the state of a room before it was decorated contrasted with the wonderful job you did.

Professional & Trade Qualifications. If you have any relevant qualifications or membership of trade bodies then mention them.

Insurance. Make clear any relevant insurance you have such as public liability insurance.
