4. Every Small Business Needs a Website!

pip tip 4 every small business needs a websiteYou may have a small business employing just a couple of staff, a florist perhaps, with a product that you do not feel is suitable for online selling. Or maybe you are a one man band offering a service, such as a plumber. Do you really need to bother with a website?

The answer is a resounding “Yes!”

It may well be that your service cannot be sold online. You’d have a hard job cutting people’s hair online, for example. Your strength will be cutting hair well and employing expert staff and you will devote a lot of time to getting this and the ambience and look of your salon right. However, once you’ve done that, how are you going to attract customers?

You could advertise in the local newspaper, but print circulations are falling drastically. Once upon a time you would have placed an advert in Yellow Pages, but who even has a copy of that in the house anymore?

If I’ve just moved to a new area, one of the first things I might do is check out local services and amenities and these days I’d do it online. An online presence enables a business to tell people who they are, what they do and why people should contact you rather than your competitors.

Think of your website as a virtual shop front. You want the window cleaned and attractive signage advertising your services with eye-catching posters detailing any special offers. Your website, if well designed, will do this for you as well.

Good design is crucial and will play into your hands. There may be a rival company selling similar products or services to yours but a much bigger proposition with many more staff and a huge advertising budget. Online, however, you can compete effectively.

No matter what their website looks like, if yours is smart, user friendly and regularly updated, you have as good a chance of attracting customers as your rival. In fact, if their website looks tired and dated (eg the last post was in 2012) then you may actually have an advantage over them, no matter how big they are!

We can help you achieve all this, quickly, easily and at a competitive price.  call us today on 01452 864402.
